Acer ginnala / Chinese maple
The Acer ginnala is better known as the Chinese maple or Amur maple. As a tree in the ground, this maple tolerates temperatures down to -35 degrees. As a bonsai it is wise to protect the tree against frost. The bark of this species is already beautiful brown / gray at an early age. The leaf resembles a cross between Acer palmatum and Acer buergerianum. In autumn the leaves turn to deep red / orange.
Bonsai
This Amur maple is about 10 years old. The tree is in a green bowl. As the tree gets older, the branching of the tree will increase and the tree will get a beautiful old appearance.
Grooming
Amur maple are not difficult trees to keep as bonsai. They are good growers. The tree is in a mixture of akadama with a little kiryu. In terms of fertilization, the species also has no special needs. It is important for any bonsai that the pots do not dry out or are too wet for a long time.
